Don’t Resist Resistance Bands
While many exercisers are quick to turn to free weights for mass building, resistance bands are often overlooked. These elastic bands can be used to work your muscles through a full-range of motion that you don’t regularly get with free weight curls and extensions.
Unlike free weights, resistance bands also provide constant tension on the muscle. This tension, which is not possible with the use of dumbbells or barbells, allows the exerciser to really focus on both the concentric (lifting) and eccentric (lowering) phases of the movement. While many lifters can get a great concentric workout with free weights, the eccentric phase is often neglected. When using a resistance band, muscle fibers are stimulated and challenged on the lifting and lowering movements.
Additionally, resistance bands are extremely portable and easy to use anywhere. While you can find a number of high-priced machines and heavy equipment to help you stay in shape, these low cost bands can be a valuable, effective part of your exercise routine.
