Keeping Up with the Gait Debate

Bon Secours In Motion Physical Therapy and Sports Performance, runningWhen it comes to running and gait analysis it’s important that sports performance specialists and physical therapists stay educated and information to properly analyze running gait and prescribe techniques to improve speed, efficiency and for injury prevention.

Earlier this month clinicians from Bon Secours InMotion Physical Therapy attended the 9th Annual Running Medicine Conference on “The Gait Debate” in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Hosted by the University of Virginia School of Medicine, the program brought together some of the leading physical therapists and orthopaedic surgeons on the east for a review of how to evaluate injured runners, lectures on running biomechanics and how to reduce injuries and boost rehabilitation, and sessions on improving running economy, orthotic and running shoe fittings. Other sessions included, ‘Tendinopathy of the Foot and Ankle,” “Shifting Paradigm Regarding Foot Strike, Footwear, and the Treatment of Foot Problems” and “Pose Running.” In addition, a major focus of the conference revolved around barefoot running and proper methods to train your body to handle barefoot or minimalist running.

We’re looking forward to using this continued education to more accurately diagnose, treat and train clients in our running analysis program!
