FAQ About Kinesio Taping™
Kinesio Taping™ is a breakthrough therapeutic method currently being used by physical therapists and sports performance specialists alike.
What is Kinesio Taping™?
Kinesio Tape™ is a heat activated, water-resistant, latex-free tape that matches the elasticity of the skin and stretches to accommodate movement of the body.
How does it work?
Because the taping provides stability without limiting motion, it is used to help correct muscle imbalances, decrease pain and swelling and promote healing. The tape is typically applied and worn 24 hours a day for 3-5 days.
What conditions can it help?
It has been successful in treating a variety of orthopedic and neurological conditions in physical therapy patients and can restore full natural function to muscles and joints to aid athletes in training and rehabilitation.
Professional athletes rely on Kinesio Tape™ to help them perform at optimal levels. Athletes such as Serena Williams, Lance Armstrong, and Kerri Walsh have been photographed during competition with their Tape in place. In Motion Physical Therapy has certified therapists trained in the application of Kinesio Tape™ and have used it to treat such things as tennis elbow, rotator cuff strain, plantar fasciitis, patellar tracking, and low back pain.
Are there any benefits to using Kinesio Tape™ over other therapies?
This therapy is safe for all populations, so it can be used for a wide variety of patient populations including pediatrics and geriatrics. Taping can also be used to decrease pain and inflammation while enhancing muscular, joint, and circulatory function during any stage of injury including preventative care. As a widely applicable therapy, taping provides neurofeedback to muscles, reduces muscles spasms/restrictions, and improves scar mobility.
