Bon Secours In Motion Physical Therapy Recognized for Health Care Heroes
Several Bon Secours In Motion Physical Therapy employees were among those honored today with 2013 Health Care Heroes Awards by Inside Business, the weekly business journal for Hampton Roads. Some of the Bon Secours honorees are employees at the Bon Secours In Motion at the Victory Family YMCA in Yorktown in the Physical Therapy category.
Members of the In Motion Physical Therapy team were nominated for their collaborative successes in the treatment of Chris Ellingsen. More than eight years ago, Chris was seriously injured in a tragic car accident, leaving him in a coma. After months of receiving speech, occupational and physical therapy, he remained wheelchair-bound, and staff at another physical therapy provider felt that he could not improve any further. However, the staff and therapists at In Motion believed he had opportunities to progress and encouraged him to try physical therapy with them. After a long road to recovery and several years of hard work, the young man is now not only able to walk, he’s able run.
“We are very proud to have the honor of working alongside these heroes,” said Michael K. Kerner, CEO of Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System. “Each of these extraordinary individuals is exemplifies the good help Bon Secours provides in our communities and workplace.”
This is the fifth year that Inside Business has presented Health Care Hero Awards to honor those who epitomize the word “hero” in the delivery of health care to the Hampton Roads community.
