Bon Secours Sports Medicine Physician Dr. Ernesto Luciano Keeps Us Running as Medical Director of the Shamrock Marathon
Dr. Ernesto Luciano-Perez, an orthopaedic surgeon and medical director of sports medicine, Bon Secours Virginia Orthopaedic Specialists, loves caring for athletes — and serving the community.
That’s why he volunteers as medical director of the Shamrock Marathon, an annual weekend of race events drawing 24,000 participants.
“We wanted to get involved in a program that really touches a lot of people in the area,” he said. “We’re trying to get everybody as active as they can be, and this is a great fit.” Luciano, who also serves as medical director of the Virginia Is For Lovers 14K, credits the race directors, participants and especially volunteers (including more than 100 Bon Secours employees) for the success of the races.
At this year’s Shamrock Marathon, Dr. Luciano, along with about 150 additional physicians, nurses, and other medical personnel will man the Medical Tent, a triage tent, and a blister tent in on the beach along the race course. He will be joined by Bon Secours In Motion employees, ATCs, PTs, and volunteers!
Friday, March 15th at 3 pm Dr. Ernesto Luciano-Perez, will also be speaking on-stage at the Speaker’s Series. His topic? “Ask the Medical Director!”
Also on Friday, March 15th at 5 pm Judy Mitnick, RD, of Bon Secours In Motion will be speaking on “Running Nutrition.”
On Saturday, March 16th at 11 am, Mike Pishioneri, PT, DPT, will be speaking on “Common Running Injuries in Older Runners.”
