Mom Helps Son Tackle Weight Problem, And Loses Pounds Herself
Overcoming childhood obesity isn’t just about getting kids away from the TV and their sodas. It’s also about teaching parents that it’s up to them to help their kids lose weight.
Nobody took that to heart more than the mother of Biingo, a 13-year-old participant on the TV show The Biggest Loser. Biingo, who longs to plays baseball with his peers, battles with his love for video games and cheesecake.
But he won’t find that dessert in his fridge anymore.
Instead, when viewers got a peek inside his home this week, they saw fresh vegetables and almond milk.
Celebrity personal trainer Bob Harper praised Biingo’s parents for their efforts.
“It starts with the parents,” Harper said. “This is a really big message for America…America needs to get moving.”
When a child sits in front of a TV playing video games or watching cartoons, it’s up to their parents to monitor that time. It’s also up to parents to make sure they’re not stocking the pantry with candy bars and ice cream.
Biingo’s mom accepts full responsibility for her son’s weight problem.
“We are the ones who have brought the food in,” she said.
But since her son joined this season of The Biggest Loser, she has embraced his healthy eating diet and exercises. In just four weeks, she saw what those choices could do. She dropped 27 pounds.
“It’s a lifestyle change,” she said.
