How long have you worked at IM?
Around 13 months!
What is your role and what are your credentials?
I am the Sports Performance Coordinator at In Motion Physical Therapy and Sports Performance at Chilled Ponds in Chesapeake, VA. I have my Master’s of Education Degree in Health and Kinesiology; I am a Certified Athletic Trainer, and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
Where did you go to school? Do you have any specialties?
I graduated with my Bachelor’s of Science in Athletic Training from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, AR in 2005 and graduated with my Master’s of Education degree from the University of Texas at Tyler in Tyler, TX. I really like to work with overhead throwing athletes (baseball, softball, volleyball). Over my career and education, I have learned about the importance of strengthening the scapula supporting muscles to help prevent or reduce injuries. I also focus performing sports specific exercises with each sport using body weight exercises, medicine balls, Keiser Triple Trainer, Gymstick, free weights, ladders, hurdles, and other equipment.
Do you currently play any sports or how do you stay in shape?
I do like to run outside. I have always liked running, it is a great way to get outside, is a great stress reliever, and really clears your head. I am currently about to begin training for the Shamrock ½ Marathon, which occurs in March. This will be my first ½ marathon, so I am anxious to get in the groove and achieve one of my life goals.
Do you have any interesting hobbies, talents, accomplishments?
I wish I could say I can sing, but I am horrible. I did play the alto, tenor, and baritone saxophone for about 6 years until I was about 17. I do like to play some Ladder Ball…just give me a location and time, and I will take you on! I feel that being a husband and father of a 2 year old is my greatest accomplishment. It is amazing to me that I was able to find a beautiful wife and have an awesome 2 year old son to live with and come home to everyday.
What is your favorite thing about working at IM?
I could not ask for a better support staff here at Chilled Ponds and at our other In Motion sites! One of the highlights of my day, other than being with my wife and 2 year old son, is coming to work at Chilled Ponds. We are like a close knit family and there is never a dull moment.
What is something about you that might surprise your colleagues?
I used to have hair! Yes, believe it or not, I did have a nice “do” at one point! I just got the gene for baldness in the gene pool, but I like it… except for sunburns. No bueno!
Do you have any pets?
I do not have any pets. We had our family dog pass away last January, and I think we will wait until our son is a little older before we get a new one. It’s definitely in the future though.
What is the last book that you read?
I like to read intelligent books like Larry the Cable Guy’s book “Get R’ Done”, which I have read twice…it’s hilarious! Anyways, I believe I read Client-Centered Exercise Prescription about a month ago.
We all try to be healthy, but if you could pick one indulgence what would it be?
I could mow through some Dark Chocolate Peanut M&M’s, but I cannot eat them due to my son having a severe peanut/tree nut allergy. Having him healthy is the key, so it is a no-brainer to forfeit the delectable M&M’s.
Thanks Aaron-very interesting-things I never knew! Want to schedule an appointment with Aaron? Call us at 391-7676!
