The specialty treatment is now available in Virginia Beach at our Health Way clinic.

Dry needling is often confused with acupuncture, but the two procedures are quite different. Dry needling is a treatment technique, used by a qualified manual physical therapist, that utilizes a very fine acupuncture needle to relieve painful muscle tension and pain. Inserting the needle between painful and tense muscles causes the muscles to briefly contract and then immediately release – providing long-lasting relief and pain reduction. This intermuscular therapy directly treats muscle tightness, joint immobility, and symptoms of pain from a variety of conditions including:

  • Low back pain and radiculopathy
  • Neck pain and radiculopathy
  • Sciatica
  • Disk related pain
  • Patellar Femoral Syndrome
  • Patellar tendonitis
  • Shin-splints; Compartment syndrome
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Lateral Epicondylitis, or tennis elbow
  • Medial Epicondylitis, or golfers elbow
  • Shoulder Impingement syndrome
  • Rotator cuff syndromes

During treatment patients may feel a cramping sensation, but then feel immediate improvement of their symptoms. Emerging evidence shows that dry needling is also effective in the management of chronic low back pain and whiplash associated disorders.
