4 Tips for Squeezing in a Work Out While on Vacation

InMotion physical therapy in Hampton Roads can help you increase your sports performance.Exercising on vacation shouldn’t be a chore. But, removed from the everyday stresses and responsibilities of life when there never seems to be enough time to focus on a work-out, vacations can be a great opportunity to incorporate exercise into your routine!

  1. Do Some Research
When you’re planning your trip, you may want to spend some time exploring the fitness options available on your trip. Are you staying in a hotel? Call to see if they have workout facilities or offer fitness classes. You may also want to see if there are any special walking programs offered or parks nearby. If you’re staying with family or friends, ask about getting a day pass to a local gym.
  2. Pack Appropriately
Check the weather for your destination and be sure to bring comfortable workout gear for the climate. If you’re worried about finding an available fitness class, your suitcase will easily accommodate workout tools like a resistance band or a jump rope. Yoga mats can also be very portable.
  3. Get Adventurous
Go for a hike, sign up for a snorkeling class, try skiing! Your destination will have a huge impact on what kind of activities are available- but you should try something new, have fun, and burn calories all at the same time. Now is the time for you to experiment with new activities!
  4. Make It a Family Affair
Many vacations involve visits to relatives,. This year, instead of bonding over the buffet, invite your loved ones on an evening stroll around the neighborhood. Make an effort to enjoy some quality time with your family while doing something good for your body at the same time.

On the other hand, if you’re a die-hard gym regular, remember to adjust your expectations for exercising while on vacation. Between family commitments and other planned activities you may not have the time to train like you normally do. Remember that taking a week off probably won’t make much of a difference in your fitness levels, but so long as you find ways to stay active, you can avoid weight gain and make the transition back to real life a little easier.
