3 Ways to Avoid Boredom on Your Run

Is familiarity breeding contempt when it comes to you and your running schedule? Beating boredom on repetitive, long, or regular routes can help you rediscover your love for the run!

Here are 3 tips for spicing up your running workout:

  1. Change the Scenery
Are you currently running on a treadmill? Hit the trails! A new environment, and the challenges of outdoor running, may give you the inspiration you need. If you’re tired of outdoor routes (or the weather is a bit too chilly for you), try exercising in front of the television. Record your favorite television shows to motivate you on your treadmill – or take them with you on your phone or tablet to the gym. If you’re used to running alone, look for a partner! Running buddies can help motivate you to get active and push yourself – with the added benefit of conversation and company on those long runs.
  2. Experiment with Intervals
Mix up your speed and pacing during runs with boosts of interval training to help keep your mind and body alert and burn more fat! While you’re at it, consider tracking your progress (distance covered, calories burned, etc.) for further motivation.
  3. Hype Yourself Up
Zero in on the things that get you excited and try to save them for your workouts. That favorite song you always love to blast on the radio? Save it on your running mix and only play it when you’re on the go. Same goes for audiobooks – don’t listen to the next chapter unless your feet are moving.

Whether you’re new to the sport or an experienced runner, a running analysis with a sports specialist can help you develop a plan to improve your running efficiency, maximize your potential, and reduce your risk of injury.
