Finding the Right Gym Exercise

So, you’ve joined the gym. Great job! Now what are you going to do? This can be rather tricky. You see, you have to find something you like to do. And some people don’t like exercising. They’ve never enjoyed it. Is this you?

If you force yourself to climb onto that dreaded treadmill, you’ll probably spend the next 30 minutes playing with the controls on the display to see if it’s time to hop off yet.

If walking is all you can physically do, take an IPod with you. Make sure your playlist includes some of your favorite music that makes you want to get up and move.

Some athletic clubs have television screens built into their treadmills. Just plug in your ear buds and you’re ready to watch ESPN or Oprah. You control the channel.

Thankfully, there’s more to do at the gym than walk on a treadmill. Even those of us who enjoy walking, jogging and running indoors like a little variety.

Aquatic classes are a wonderful alternative for people who need the resistance of the water to help them achieve their fitness goals without hurting their joints. Try finning for a fabulous all-body workout. Some gyms have Aqua Zumba classes, which combine latin-inspired dance moves with aquatic fitness.

If you get bored with your workout routine, try something you’ve never done before. Cycling and classes like  boot camp, yoga and pilates are all excellent ways to get into shape.

Don’t give up until you find something you love. And then you won’t want to stop.
